Neck Pain Q & A

What causes chronic neck pain?

The cervical spine is made up of seven vertebrae, which are separated by discs. These discs are filled with a cushioning gel-like substance that acts as a shock absorber between the bones. The discs also stabilize your neck and allow it to turn from side to side. Neck pain may be the result of an injury (whiplash), poor posture, neck strain, osteoarthritis, spondylosis, stenosis or simply aging.

What are some treatment options for chronic neck pain?

In order to treat the pain, the doctor must first find the source. There are several options available for treating neck pain. A steroid injection may reduce the inflammation and reduce the associated pain. Trigger point injections, facet joint injections, radiofrequency ablation and physical therapy may also be an option.
