GenViscĀ® Q & A

How does GenViscĀ® work?

The synovial fluid in your knee keeps the joint lubricated and cushions the joint during activity. Osteoarthritis breaks down this fluid causing pain and stiffness. Hyaluronic acid is a component of synovial fluid and is injected into the space of the affected area between the thigh and the calf bone. This provides lubrication of the joint and relief of the pain and discomfort. These injections are done in a series of 5, one week apart for optimal benefit. Studies have shown that some patients have experienced 6 or more months of pain relief after treatment.

What are the side effects and aftercare following GenViscĀ®?

Some common side effects are knee pain, redness, swelling and inflammation at the injection site. After injections it is recommended that you avoid strenuous activities, like jogging, tennis and heavy lifting for the first 48 hours.
